Fat Friends The Musical The Alhambra Theatre 14 – 19 May 2018

Get ready to laugh your socks off in the hilarious and uplifting musical comedy by Yorkshire’s very own Kay Mellor. Fat Friends the Musical lands at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford with sweet treats galore and including the stage debut of the cricketing hero Freddie Flintoff. The much-loved TV show entertained fans over four packed series and now transfers to a heart-warming extravaganza of fun telling the secret truths about diets and how not to lose weight.

The story resonates from the original series around the beloved Stephenson Family and the ladies struggling with fad diets and love. Kelly (Jodie Prenger) isn’t interested in dieting and loves the way she is as does her not so bright fiancé Kevin (Freddie Flintoff). Whereas her mum Betty (Sam Bailey) has been dieting for years and is about to be crowned Super Slimmer of the year! With Natalie Anderson playing Lauren, the lovesick group leader hopelessly swooning over Paul (Jonathan Halliwell) the local vicar and Natasha Hamilton as Super Slimmers owner, super bitch Julia Fleshman.

The entire production is brilliant with amazing structure and laugh out loud one liners that will have you howling. It’s always interesting to see how a TV series will come across on the stage, especially when you add songs. This works fantastically and the music by non-other than Nick Lloyd Webber shines and brings the whole production together. The musical numbers are witty, cleverly crafted and show the true emotion with the every ongoing struggle to feel good about yourself.

Jodie Prenger leads the way with perfect comedic moments and a beautiful voice to compliment the incredible songs. The love duet between Natalie Anderson and Jonathan Halliwell melts your heart and the chemistry between them is on fire, bit also very very funny. Sam Bailey belts out some knockout harmonies uplifting and bringing the house down. A truly unforgettable show that will have you giggling with glee and reaching for the donuts!
