A drama written by a former practising barrister will be performed at Leeds Combined Court Centre on Saturday 9thMarch 2019.
Learned Friendsis a one act play and includes a prosecution and defence counsel as they await the verdict in the trial of a high-profile football manager.
£5 of every ticket sold will be donated to local homelessness charity, Simon on the Streets; an organisation which works with local people who are affected by rough sleeping in Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield.
Early scenes take place in the public assembly area before the cast and audience are relocated to a courtroom setting for a fully immersive legal drama.
Written by Ginn Davis, who has 15 years’ experience working in criminal law, the play has two alternate endings.
In an interesting twist no one in the cast nor crew knows how the play will end at its commencement. The decision is made in real time, by a random selection of members of the audience.
The cast includes former West End and TV actress Sharon Baylis (The Mousetrap, Amadeus, Bergerac, Emmerdale) and national theatre actor Michael Bott (Skylight, Darkest Hour).
Tickets for performance are £30 and three performances will take place on Saturday 9thMarch 2019 at 12:00, 2:30pm and 5:00pm.
Ginny Davies commented:
“Secrets, suspense and a little spice are set to play out in Learned Friends.
“Prosecution and defence counsel await the verdict in a high-profile criminal trial. Each harbours a secret. When revealed, irregularities in the trial threaten friendships, careers and the true course of justice.
“I’m delighted that the production is supporting SOTS. Learned Friends demonstrates how easily things go wrong even in a professional environment. The work of SOTS is vital to restoring independence at a personal level to those who most need it.”
